It was one morning recently when I got an offer from a Director to be involved in the production of a music video that changed my whole week. She sent me a brief after I accepted her offer, and we met up for a quick meeting with the Producer to discuss the outlay.
My job was to source two outfits for back up dancers in Madeline Lenman and the Desert Beats new music video. It was both exhilarating and nerve racking as I had never been asked to do anything like this before, and I only had one week to source the clothes. My budget was $200.. I got crackin’. The theme was 70’s cowgirls in Las Vegas… it sounded hot as hell. My dancers were two women in their 40s, one size 10 and the other size 16-18. I went to Vintage Garage, Shag, Lost and Found and did a shout out on instagram to see if my friends had anything in their crazy wardrobes. I found the outfits in a week including a gold glow mesh top, gold shiny 70s booty shorts, two pairs of white cowboy boots that I borrowed off my friends, a silver studded belt with jewelled studs and two toy cowboy guns that I bejewelled myself with fake jewels
. I could not believe it, I even bought some pink sparkly material and white fringing that I was committed to making a top with. Of course I had at least one breakdown in the week.
On the day of the of the shoot, I rocked up wearing leopard print velvet pants, platforms, a blue jumper and a sparkle pink cowboy hat. I came to the church where we were shooting holding the bag of clothes that I had. Oh and myyyyy the people loved the clothes! The day consisted of myself dressing the back up dancers and making sure they were on point. There was a lot of waiting around in the meantime waiting for the crew to set up, it took a reaaaaally long time. Once the two girls were ready they started shooting. I photographed the set during the day and watched how the crew did their thing. It was pretty amazing to see all these talented and creative people. There were two on camera, two on lighting, one Director, one assistant Director, a Producer, two Photographers including myself, four on hair and makeup and two Stylists also one of those being me.
It was a pretty incredible day, which lasted till 12am and I got lucky because I left at 4:30pm.
When it was time for me to leave they gave me a round of applause. It was a pretty damn cool feeling to have a crowd of 20 clapping for you for your hard work. I gained so much satisfaction and knowledge from taking part in this. The producer has asked me to be involved in another shoot later on.
There ya go, stying for a music video was quite the glitter of excitement.
